On October 6th, 2014, the Memorial School was very lucky to have the FoodPlay come and present for our whole school. It was very exciting as it was our first whole school assembly. FoodPlay is an award winning nutrition company which travels to schools to promote healthy eating and active lifestyles. Below is a sneak peak about what the program offers! Make sure you ask your children about FoodPlay!
Welcome back to an exciting new school year!! I am very excited to start the year teaching health and physical education to your children! I will be teaching all of the 1st grade and full day kindergarten health classes. I also teach physical education classes at Memorial and Dale Street School.
First grade started the year off reviewing and exploring what we already knew about Health. I was very impressed with their knowledge of cleanliness, safety and healthy eating. Our first unit was courtesy counts and students learned about being polite and having good manners. This year your children will be learning a variety of health topics including bus, school and playground safety, safety at home, germs, dental health, heart health, food for growth, the food plate, healthy snacks and foods and ticks and lyme disease to name a few. Kindergarten kicked off the year with making healthy choices. Classes discussed what does being “healthy” mean. We learned about what we can do to make our bodies healthy and what we could eat that helps our bodies grow. Our safety unit will the topic of the next few health classes.
